Yarn Usage
Tussah silk is an exceptionally economical yarn — lightweight, drapey and strong. With 800 m per 100 g, even a small amount is enough to create refined, airy garments.
For lace shawls and wraps, you’ll need around 80–150 g depending on size and pattern density.
Summer tops or T-shirts require 180–250 g on average, while oversized styles may take up to 300 g.
A lightweight sweater uses 250–350 g, and a cardigan about 300–500 g depending on length.
Lace skirts need 200–350 g, while dresses take roughly 350–700 g for long designs.
Tussah silk blocks beautifully and holds its shape over time; the slightly textured surface helps lace patterns remain crisp and elegant.
Hand-Dyeing
Tussah silk is a perfect choice for hand-dyeing.
Its slightly textured, natural surface absorbs dye beautifully, producing soft, nuanced tones with a subtle matte glow.
Unlike smooth mulberry silk, Tussah yields a more organic look — colors appear gentle, smoky, and elegant, with natural depth and dimension.
Hand-dyers love it for its ability to reveal delicate shade transitions and retain color vibrancy after drying.
It works equally well for solid pastel tones, soft gradients, or artistic multicolor effects.
Thanks to its protein fiber composition, Tussah silk is ideal for use with acid dyes and professional silk dyeing techniques.
💡 Price is for 100 g.
